Philip’s design and engineering background spans three continents, over 25 years in research and product development, and a degree in Industrial Design/Transportation from California’s prestigious Art Center College of Design.
Before transitioning into product design, Philip spent 8 years as an automotive designer, initially with Volkswagen AG in Germany and then with several consulting firms in California. In 1995, Philip joined I.N. Inc., a full service product development and manufacturing firm, as Director of Program Management and ultimately Vice President of R&D, As such, he was responsible for a staff of 60, conducting major design initiatives for Johnson & Johnson, Viasys Healthcare, Boston Scientific, Clorox Corporation and other Fortune 500 companies. In 2002, he joined BlackHägen Design as CFO and partner responsible for design and development.
Philip has managed hundreds of projects during his career, from small to million-dollar budgets, and supervised the critical transfer of numerous designs to domestic and offshore manufacturing. He is trained in design-control protocols specific to ISO 9001 and 13485 directives and has successfully implemented R&D quality systems at I.N. Inc and more recently at 3M Electronic Monitoring. An active member of the Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA), Philip has lectured at the Art Center College of Design and pioneered the first transportation design class at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. He is listed as an inventor on more than 2 dozen design and utility patents.
