Embedded devices are becoming exponentially more complicated and connected. For example, a device with push-buttons and an LED indicator panel is now also connected, running multicore processors, and offering a feature-rich user interface. This complexity presents a fertile environment for hackers to exploit. Most often, ensuring cybersecurity focuses on securing the perimeter of critical systems and enabling fast recovery in the event of failure. This talk provides a new perspective on building safe and secure devices, describing a holistic view of cybersecurity that’s built from the bottom up to establish security as the driving force in critical system design.
