Exciting, Powerful AI Tools for Your R&D Toolkit

Srihari Yamanoor (President, DesignAbly)

Location: 160B

Date: Thursday, May 16

Time: 11:00am - 11:45am

Track: BIOMEDevice Boston, Track B: Research & Development

Vault Recording: TBD

R&D programs used in medical device design are primed to benefit from Machine Learning (ML) and related techniques as they mature. It is important that as AI/ML tools approach maturity and cost efficiency, the R&D team must be positioned for success ahead of time by knowing which tools to use, and when. This involves inculcating a data-driven culture, with the right sensory mechanisms, data labeling, and other approaches. The presentation will highlight the importance of this and strategies to formulate questions effectively.

Topics covered include:
  • Classifications of ML and AI tools
  • How the combination of technologies such as imaging and scanning with ML algorithms have use in clinical research, device and procedural assessment, and trend analysis
  • Design applications such as component placement, spacing, and material selection
  • Processing applications such as assembly order optimization; operational optimization for cutting, joining, bonding and other parameters; and inspection using machine vision
