Those who are interested in using RFID and sensors as part of an IoT (Internet of Things) solution are presented with many ways of encoding data yet none of them seems to be compatible with the data in their existing bar code applications. In addition, some items in the IoT have both bar code and RFID associated with them but the encoded data is different.

This session introduces the audience to the two main standardized data encoding methods, GS1 and ISO, GS1 offers an incompatible encoding method with current bar coding applications, but recently has published a method allowing users to encode the same data regardless of data carrier technology. This talk will detail the current state of affairs, explain the incompatibility issues, and discuss how the deployment of a new offline tool will allow applications to progress towards a seamless future. This presentation is essential for anyone wanting to implement RFID and or sensors without disruption to successful and ongoing bar code systems.
