As microcontroller-based systems become more complex, understanding how to use a variety of debugging tools has effectively become a requirement of embedded system design. Exploiting the highly versatile ARM CoreSight Debug and Trace Port allows you to visualize the state of your embedded system, at run-time, without instrumenting code. Attendees will learn how to easily display or change the value of variables or I/O ports on a Cortex-M MCU without modifying code in any way. Topics covered include changing filter gain, control loop behavior, testing I/O ports and more without having to change, recompile, download and re-run your target code.

Takeaway

Be able to debug and visualize a running embedded system without halting the CPU
Benefit from features from the Cortex-M that are rarely used
Graphically display the status of variables while the target is running
